Do you have what it takes to become a chef? November 26, 2007

Lately, I’ve been spending a lot of time thinking that I need to further my education and get another degree. Our entire family is big on education and while my current degree is a pretty good one, there’s no harm in getting another one. Instead of going the traditional route, I’m considering signing up at the California School of Culinary Arts, to learn an entirely new subject. I spent some time surfing their site at http://www.csca.edu/ and was pretty impressed at the depth of their courses as well as their alumni.

Since my hubby also has a diploma in this field from one of the best institutions in Switzerland, it will be interesting to do a similar course of study. What is holding me back is that it will require a serious commitment on my part, since it will involve a good amount of time and money invested in the venture. There has been a surge of interest in the culinary arts lately, maybe due to the reality series that we’ve all been seeing on TV or just because a greater number of students are getting interested in this field again.

Black Friday deals 2007 November 23, 2007

There are lots of sites where you can get the scoop on the best deals, such as TGIBlackFriday, Black Friday 2007, CyberMonday.com, Black Friday info, Deals Plus, Fat Wallet, Black-Friday.net, and so on. Most sites post leaked sales circulars on their sites, although not all will have the scoop on who is offering what at which price.

Some other top deals that we’ve culled from ads: $900 for a 42-inch 720p plasma TV, the Panasonic TH-42PX75U, (online is closer to $1000) an “early bird” special at Best Buy; and $900 for Sylvania’s LC420SS8, a 42-inch 1080p LCD TV that is an early markdown at Sears. Earlier this fall, there had been rumors among industry jockeys about a 42-inch 720p plasma TV for $600 by the holidays, but don’t hold out for this deal: Nothing has surfaced on the Black Friday spoiler sites, and Gagnon says the research firm’s own ferreting hasn’t confirmed this, either.

The power of the internet November 18, 2007

When it comes to using the services of a web marketeer, it makes sense to only go with the best possible service. Say you decide to take the services of a middle of the road kind of firm, and after 6 months realize that whatever money you spent was wasted, so its better to go for a SEO Exeter kind of firm that will make sure that your goals are met and you haven’t wasted your money. Not everyone is an expert on search engine optimization and you can make things really bad unless you know what you’re doing.

I did a basic course on search engine optimization and other web marketing tactics, so realize just how complicated these things can be. For most small business owners, spending money on something like this is a major issue, but they must understand how these things work and how such an investment could pan out in the long run. The internet is where everyone is heading to these days and it is only going to get bigger, so unless you are willing to play along with it, it’s better not to get involved at all.

Changes to my blog November 18, 2007

If you’ve noticed, I have made several changes to my blog in the past week. To my side bar, I have added a description of myself and my work, a cloud tag, depicting the topics that I write most about; a section on recent comments; the top clicks; and most popular posts. It’s really easy to play around on a wordpress blog and just in a few clicks create a new look for a blog.

I have also changed the author name from the generic admin/Administrator to my own name, well sort of, Shel. So, that’s quite a few changes to my blog, right. I plan to make several more changes in the near future as well.

I’m also getting comments non stop on how to get a job with Reliance Retail or Pantaloon etc, and I have repeatedly said that I do not work for them, I have no connection with them, I certainly do not hold interviews for them etc etc. I can however provide information on the retail industry in general and on retail companies in specific, so if that’s what you’re looking for, you’re in the right place. Else, too bad and you’re likely not to get an answer individually from me.

I’ve been having a problem with my internet all day today. It’s very odd, the wireless works fine on the other laptop and works fine when I take my laptop closer to it in the other room, but seems to not want to connect at my workstation. So I’ve have a slow day working today. Slow and frustrating, since I’ve spent so much longer doing my work. I have put in a complaint, but haven’t got a response from them as yet. Let’s see what happens.

My Tokyo connection November 8, 2007

As much as I love to travel and like to cover new ground on each trip, the one place that I am quite keen on going is Japan, especially since my mom-in-law visited a couple of years back and described the energy of its cities. I would especially love to visit Tokyo during the famed Cherry blossom tea party season, which I read about in a novel some time back. I asked for a Kimono from Japan from their visit, which turned out to be a rather hard item to find, since no one really wears them anymore, except for the heavy ancestral ones that are for special occasions.

She did manage to find me a lovely kimono in a pale beige with a cherry tree on it, which I found just too beautiful that I could not wear it and decided to display on my wall.  It looked simply fabulous  on the wall, more a work of art than anything else, but after close to 8 months there I took it down and now wear it myself. I’ve always been particularly fond of Kimono’s as I had one when I was growing up as well, as a gift from an aunt. I do hope though, that the Japanese people do not relegate the Kimono only for ceremonial purposes but keep it alive as a living and wearable piece of art as well as clothing.

Blogologies November 8, 2007

As I’m getting more into blogging again, I find that with so many new blogs around the entire concept of blogging is changing. When I started blogging in September of 2004, yes it’s been over three years since I’ve been blogging, there were very few bloggers, and even fewer people in the mainstream understood what blogging was. I was totally addicted to the concept of blogging from the word go, but within a month, I found that I was at a loss of what to write about.

I didn’t want my blog to be too personal, and I wasn’t quite sure what I really wanted to blog about, apart from the general stuff that most people put on their personal blogs, reviews of movies, restaurants etc. I wanted to do more than that, so slowly I began to create a niche for myself and segregate my blogs, yes by then I had multiple blogs, to cater to specific topics.
